Last week I had my first seisure ever. I have been on keto for 3 years and never had a problem with my sodium levels. But last week was differenent. I woke up in ICU after having been passed out for 3 days with my husband telling me that I had a seisure. I was shocked because I don't remember any of what led up to it, my memory stopped at organizing our pantry. I don't remember anything after that until I woke up. I am writing this blog post because I want to warn people. Keto has been so popular that people need to be made aware of the risks.
What happened to me was my sodium levels dropped below normal. I was taking electrolytes and i still do no know how it happened since I was taking the necessary salt requirements. This can happen to anyone. According to the many experts doctors that worked on me, the keto sodium pills are not regulated which means they have not been approved by the testing. I am imploring you if you are on keto to be careful with the sodium levels. I have also read about another who suffered a seisure as well which I should have paid more attention to.
I was on a breathing tube for 3 days and in the hospital for 5 days! It was the most unreal experience i've ever been through. The influencers on instagram they are just regular people, not experts in any way, so be careful what they are telling you because it is not gospel! I am back on a balanced diet with switching every other day on vegetables and protein and incorporating walking as my exercise regimen. Diabetes runs in my family so I do need to be careful about my sugar intake. I know sugar is never good for you. But I am a believer in a balanced diet now, I don't care what these so called keto people say.
I was put on all kinds of medication in the hospital and am still on anti seisure medication called keppra, even though I do not have a history of them. I do not want any of the people who have come across this post to experience a seisure.
